Solar water heating for guesthouses

Condor Solar in conjunction with Future Comfort have installed 5 x 150 litre SolarMAX retrofit solar water heating systems at a guesthouse in Tamboerskloof Cape Town.

This features a pumped, flat plate, retrofit solution where the solar collectors sit unobtrusively on the roof, while the kwikot solar geysers are hidden inside the roof.

The Kwikot retrofit systems takes advantage of the Eskom solar water heating rebate scheme which makes the installation even more cost effective while still allowing the guest house owner to have peace of mind that comes with having redundancy built into his solar hot water solution.

Noise was another factor taken into account when specifying the systems, so an existing heat pump was removed and the 5 x 150 litre solar geysers installed.

Heat pumps in this situation were shown to be less energy efficient, noisy and less cost effective for the size of the residential installation.

Solar water heating is recommended for all guesthouses, bed & breakfasts, and hotel accommodation as remarkable savings can be achieved with a capital investment that is recouped within 3 years.
